Support Groups
Support groups are very important to the patients and to their families. There are many support groups for Osteogenesis Imperfecta victims. One of the biggest support groups is the OI Foundation. It is a really nice organization and their newsletters are very nice (I got one so I know they are nice). The Bennett Clayton Foundation is a great place for children with OI an offers a lot of support for the parents too. There is another place that gives support to affected people in the UK called the Brittle Bone Society (BBS). The BBS's mission is to "improving the quality of life for people diagnosed with OI in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, providing advice, signposting and information, providing financial support for wheelchairs and equipment and raising awareness of the condition."
Support Groups can offer a lot of information on top of all the support. Support groups give emotional and physical help, a place for education on your issues, a place where your problems and feelings are normal, and to let off some steam. Support groups give you information about the latest research, medical treatments and therapies, and plans on how to pay your bills and get the most coverage possible.
